Genestealer Cult first impressions.

This weekend I had my first two battles with the Genestealer cult.  In today’s post I will give you my reactions and thoughts.

First of all my overall opinion is that they are pretty fun to play.  The hopping in and out of reserves is an interesting mechanic.  It is going to take a few games to really get the feel for when it is time to hop in and hop out.  This really makes the army a new and unique experience.

I have seen people say that the cult are overpowered. In the games I played and with the units I have, I don’t see it.  Since I don’t have the plethora of models like all the other cult players do, I had to do min squads. These die to a stiff breeze (deep striking heavy flamers and bolters.) I love the patriarch and co in the first curse formation but they can only do so much.

My first game I was teamed up with a Tau force against blood angels and space wolves.  The blood angels had the golden host and the space wolves had black manes formation with 5 drop pods on turn 1.  My cult ambush had my acolytes and metamorphs walk on from my edge.  By turn 2 we had lost most of the tau and my tanks.  I still had my neophytes, one squad of acolytes, the squad of metamorphs and Pat and co, but my opponents had all of their army minus two blood claw units.  Due to time we called it there.

That golden host was terrifiying  just like I thought it would be.  Maybe my acolytes or first curse could have held out but not the tau suits or infantry.  There just was not enough support for the army to perform.

The second game was against Salamanders. He had flamers in every squad and the whole army deep struck except a razorback and Devastor squad. The first few turns I was taking out everything he was throwing at me.  I lost a leman russ on turn 1 after I took out his razor back and dev squad. On turn 2, I took out the drop pod and most of the tac squad that hurt me. I lost the other russ and an acolyte squad.   On turn three I went for objectives while losing my other acolytes. On turn 4 for the Pat came out and devoured 3 land speeders.  He was then assaulted by a named dread that did a S5 hit on everyone in base contact which was the rest of my stealers.  I could not roll a rending hit to save him and he went down in turn 5.

By this time I was down to a Magus and some neophytes that were to close to the enemy to return to the shadows, some metamorphs stuck in a battle with a tac squad (still no rending), and some aberrants that were close enough for an 8 in charge to get his tac squad and take an objective. When they failed I realized that I should have returned to the shadows . Then way when I drew the tactical card for a unit cult ambushing, they would give me that point.  The game ended with me down 14 -12.  It was a hard fight.  I made some errors and the dice were unkind.

Once I get some more units I think I will be better off.  I would take away the second russ to either run more squads or buff my min squads up.  Until then I have some painting to do.  I think they will provide a nice contrast to my Skitarii and Necrons.

Before the game I got to paint up a Genestealer cult metamorph.  I am using the same scheme for his uniform as the neophyte but his skin is pure tyranid.

Painting this guy up wasn't to bad.  I do notice some mold lines that I missed (which makes me mad) but other than than I am pretty pleased.

I was scared the blue would be too much but I think it works.  It ties into my tyranid army well while keeping still it linked to the cult.  The last hurtle will be the vehicles.  I will either go with a similar style to my guard or I will end up going a new way entirely.

This model needs a little more highlights on the blue to fully complete the model.  Of course I have the base to do as well.

I think the metamorphs and aberrants will be painted in this style.  The neophytes, magnus and primus will be painted with the lighter tone.  This leaves the acolytes.  I think that they will be getting the darker treatement sine their hands, head, and feet are very similar to genestealers.  They just hold their weapons instead of growing them.

I saw there was a new challenge for Dreadtober So I plan on switching back to get my base done and finish up the painting the walker. Then I can swing back to paint up some more cultists.

#Dreadtober: Update a new player has been added

The Dreadtober challenge this week is to create a base for our Dread.  Not only am I goint to try to meet this challenge I also have added an extra "Dread" to the fun. To run the basic detachment in my Genestealer Cult I needed to add a sentinel.  I got lucky and found a Forgeworld sentinel for half price. Lets take a look...

Before getting to the new model, I needed to work on my Ironstrider.  Last time, I left off working on blocking out the basic colors.  I still had some of that to do but I wanted to get started on the basing.

First up I made some terrain out of pink foam as I have done on the rest of my Skitarii.  These are shaped as rocks and placed randomly on the base. I then base coated them grey.

I then covered the rest of the base with Agrellen Earth technical paint. Once this dried all nice and cracklely(not a word), I added a protective coat of modge podge. Lastly I added a couple of shrubs.

the shrubs are hiding behind the rocks and leg.

To finish off I will need to add some highlights to the rocks and the base is done.  I also added in the rest of the basic colors.  This just leaves the highlights left on the walker part.  I should have the drivers done next week and be finished before the end of the month.

Next up the new Sentinel. It was a bit damaged in the transport.  It also didn't have a driver or a weapon.

I added in a driver with a genestealer cult head.  I also added om a roll cage with the aid of some greenstuff.

I took an extra autocannon from my dragoon  kit and magnetized it so I can swap out other weapons later if I get them.  I would like to get a lascannon or a missile pod.

I will need to base coat him before I can start painting it.  I still haven't decided on how I want to paint it.  I am thinking I will try to match my IG army and use a green scheme.  This way I could always use him in either IG or Cult army.

So with a little over a week left I have one almost done and the new guy started.  I should be able to finish them. *Crosses Fingers*

Until next time...

This is the last week of Dreadtober so I had to finish up my Ironstrider and new sentinel.  Both were close to completion so it was not to difficult.

First of all, I apologize for the photos.  My light box was put away so the images are a bit off. the first look is at the Ironstrider configuration.  While the transition is not seamless, I think it looks good. If I decide to get more of these I will try to do better making less noticeable.

Ironstrider Balistarius

Ironstrider Balistarius

I feel the Dragoon option is not as noticeable.  I love the look of these guys.  I am eager to see how they pan out on the field.

Sydonian Dragoon

Sydonian Dragoon

Sydonian Dragoon

With this complete I have both configuration of legs.  If I get another one I plan on doing some customization.  I might have it climbing over one of the rocks.

The sentinel also got completed. I like how the driver looks intent or searching for a new target.   I only have an auto cannon for it at the moment.  I want to get some bits for a lascannon, missile launcher, and a heavy flamer.

This is the first Cult I have based. Since they are miners I went with a muddy ground.  I thought about adding some rocks but I went simple.

There we go.  I completed my project.  Next up I have a bunch of cult to paint, my peltast to finish, and several necrons sitting on my table to work on.

Hope you have a good weekend and a happy Halloween!

I am sorry I have been so quiet of late, but I had some visitors in town and did not have a chance to do any hobby work.  Last night, I had some time to work on the Patriarch.

This guy is a cool model. While there are hints of the previous two broodlord models there is enough new to make him unique.

I have used a paint scheme similar to my tyranids, but I have made a couple of changes.  I have made the fleshy parts the same skin tone as my neophytes. I also kept the tongue a red like the metamorphs.

I have done most of the color blocking.  I have also used a wash on the blues.  Next up will be my highlighting.  First, I will add the lowlight on the green carapace followed but the highlight. Then, the blues will get there highlight.   Lastly I will paint the base.

I have the texture on base laid out. I need to paint the ground and work on the details on the pipe.  I think one good night will finish him off.  I also added the ground for the metamorph so he should be done soon as well.  It is not fast but the army is progressing.

Death Ray Designs: Rapid Vanguard Terrain

Last post, I said I was almost finished with my Patriach.  This means instead of finishing him, I should start a new project. I am calling it The Great Terrain Project of 2016. Back in March I backed Death Ray Design's Rapid Vanguard Terrain Kickstarter.  Well last week, it came in. I was so excited that I decided to put everything on hold and start assembling.

First up I built one of the dragon teeth  pylons.

When I supported the campaign, I wondered how they got the details on all the pieces. I never saw the unpainted versions so I didn't see the thin sheet of details that you add on at the end. I like the little touches this way all the deatils are not just etched lines, there is actual depth.

After a couple of pylons I decided to assemble the missile turret. I love this little guy but I don't know what I can use it as in the game.  I can figure that out later.

I did find the plastic parts fit really tight.  Looking at the one I built and their completed turret I see I didn't push the balls in far enough. Also, I have either lost one or didn't get a full set.

I want to see how they look with some paint on them before I make any drastic moves.

Now that I had a few pieces under my belt, I pushed forward and finished up the remaining pylons and the Gatling turret.

With all these small guys done I decided I would step up my game and build one of the pillboxes. These guys look to be the size of GW's Vengeance Weapons Battery without the guns.

As you can see the included turrets will fit in the ring on top.  I didn't have any of the GW turrets to test out but I am thinking they just might fit.  I wish they had the same detail as the turrets do on the ring.  I guess beggars can't be chooses though.

With the pillbox done I thought I would test paint one of the Dragon Teeth. I am not sure if this is the final paint scheme.  I think the grey blends to much into the silver.  I might use a brighter silver or a darker grey. Over all I like the end results.

I look forward to assembling the rest.  It will be nice to have a set of terrain in case I ever want to have someone over. Heck if I move who know where I will get in a game.

Have a good week.

WIP: Rapid Vanguard Bunker

$

Last night I continued to work on The Great Terrain Project.  Tonight I worked on one of the bunkers.
Like the other pieces, once it is built there is a set of thin detail parts to add to give the piece depth. I have added some of these to the top of this piece. This extra touch makes a world of difference.

After building a few pieces, my biggest complaint is sometimes it is hard to line up the pieces just right. If we look at this kit, each pylon is at least 3 pieces that are just glued side by side.  I kept trying to straighten them out but there was no real way to lock them into position.

Also looking at the walls they fit in the roof nicely but there is nothing holding the bottom in place. It looks like the notch on the pylons are supposed to hold the wall in but no amount of wood glue kept those locked in.  I will probably try some hot glue hoping that it sets fast enough to keep it there.

I still love the terrain.  Once finished it will look great.  The pillbox went together great and with a roof and floor I didn't have the same issues I did with the bunker. I still have 3 other types of buildings to try out.  We will see how they turn out after I finish this one.

TGTP2016: Rapid Vanguard Bunker

Last night I had some time to work on TGTP2016 (The Great Terrain Project of 2016 last time I write that out).  I finished up the bunker and worked on the cannon turret.

I filled the corners of the bunker with hot glue. This shored up the walls and it feels much more sturdy.

I then proceeded to add on all the detail cards.

I am still working on the technique on adding these cards. Some times I think I have enough glue but then they start to peel back or lift up. I figure by the end of the project I will be an expert.

I again had some issues with the acrylic rods on the turret. you can see where instead of sliding on the rod the mdf caught and tore the rods.

You can see the card lifting off the top.

I hope a little glue and paint with hind this or at least make it look like wear and tear.

The end of this barrel is torn.
Over all, I am still happy with the terrain.  I think with some paint these are going to look nice.  I have assembled all the gun turrets now, the dragon teeth, a pill box, and a bunker. I have 4 pill boxes, a bunker, a barracks, a HQ, and a Foundry left to build.  I think I will try the Barracks next.

Let me know what you think or suggest different techniques for me to try when assembling these kits.

TGTP2016: Rapid Vanguard Barracks

As predicted I started work on the barracks kit last night.  I got the basic building assembled and it is ready for the card details.

The assembly of this kit was a lot easier than the bunker.  The walls are all reinforcing each other and the caps on the end hold everything in place. This gives me high hopes for the HQ and Foundry kits.

This building is bigger than I thought. It will give line of site blocking to most things in the game save for a few models like a knight or flying hive tyrant.

The one problem I have seen with this kit is the doors.  Looking at the instructions, I am to mount the punch out from the end walls to a thin detail card.  Then, I mount that onto the inside of the end piece.  I am not sure I like the idea of the only thing holding the door on is the thin detail card.   I believe I will be re-enforcing the doors with some extra sprue pieces so my mind is at ease.

Next up will be the detail cards for this piece.  After that I will only have two new kits left and five repeats.  We are moving right along.  With luck I will have the rest built and some painted before the end of the year.

After a long break I continued the terrain project and finished up building the barracks.

This piece is nice and tall.  It will be a nice line of site blocking terrain.

The cards are going on better.  I am getting the hang of placing the cards and getting them to stay down.  I have reinforced the doors so they are solidly attached.

I ended up adding the alcove sills. When building I wasn't sure if I wanted to but after placing the detail cards I saw there was an outline making the placing of the sills easy.

Next up assembling the HQ.

Shorehammer! A cool con on the ocean!

This weekend was the Shorehammer debut.  It sported a 40k highlander tournament, a Age of Sigmar big battle, and a no holds barred tournament they call The Nut Crusher.  There were a few other games and plenty of open tables.  The atmosphere was light and everyone seemed to be having fun.  I am not sure how successful it was but I think it was a great time.
They had three mini games that I wanted to try out but couldn't quite fit them in.  The first up was the Gorka Morka Drag race.  I am not sure of the exact rules but they seem very similar to the rules Mini Wargaming had during their campaign with a few mods.  If I remember right they used a modified Gorka Morka rules set for their games as well.  It looked fun.  I got to see a game in between the turns of my tournament.

The next up was the Hive City.  I didn't see anyone playing this.  The board looks cool I would have like to play or at least seen some people playing this.

Lastly, was the Wych Cult Death Matches.  I didn't see anyone playing this.  It sounded fun.  Kinda like the "Who Would Win" type games out there but in a 10 player tournament.

I would have liked a little more enthusiasm. for these games.  Maybe have some one announce on the loud speaker when the next match was starting.  Also have people man all of these games so you could have one running at all times or if they get popular then one person for each.  I understand this was the first convention, it just felt that an oppertunity was missed here.

neat zone mortalis board that was an open table
They had a lot of open boards to play on. I didn't take advantage of any of the boards unfortunately.  It is nice to have them available for everyone to play on.

The next few shots are from the highlander.  The first is my friend's Sisters army.  It was funny how many surprised comments he got.

The tournament was fun.  Almost every one had time to finish their games.  It is a smaller point game and limiting on shenanigans with no flyers or crazy summoning. It was also a strict 4 turn game which caught me off guard a few times.  I just need to play the objectives.  I am sounding like a broken record.

The boards were pretty symmetrical. There was a large piece in the center with another large piece in each corner.  I think the long range game hurt me in my games since my opponet had plenty of terrain to hide behind and not a lot of room to maneuver.  Next time I might bring one of my assaulty armies like nids or orks.  I am not sure gretchen will be able to help out much.

I would suggest a 5 turn game next time with a 15 min deployment.  There seemed to be a lag inbetween rounds.  Other than that it was great!

Thanks to Pimpcron and team for all their hard work.  I had more fun here that I did at the Nova.  The games were cool, the people were friendly, the RPG guy's panel was interesting, and I can't wait till the next year.

I finally decided to finish off my Patriach.  All I had left was to paint some highlights and paint the skulls on the base.

My light box is still out of commission.  I am sorry for the bad lighting.

He is a cool model.  I can't wait for the next time I field him with his genestealers.

With some extra time I painted up a neophyte.  He is all done except for his base.  I am going to wait for a group of these guys before basing them all.

With him done I have 14 left to paint from the Overkill box.  I am slowly working though them.  The plan is for me to focus on the cult next year like i focused on the ad mech this year.  Hopefully I will get better using them.

Until next time.

Genestealer Cult Aberrant

This weekend I spent some time painting some genestealer cult.  It is getting cold so I can't base coat anything so I decided to paint guys I already based coated.

First up is my Aberrant.  I can imagine these mutants are half way between a human and a full genestealer.  I decided to paint them with the neophyte skin tone with the full genestealer parts my tyranid skin tone.

Genestealer Cult Aberrant

I doubt once I get enough acolytes and metamorphs that these guys will be in my lists.  They are expensive points wise and the other units are better at almost everything.  I might use them as a summoned unit.
Genestealer Cult Neophyte

Next I worked on a couple of Neophytes. These little guys are pretty fun to paint up.  There is a lot of little details but nothing too hard for me to paint.

Genestealer Cult Neophyte

The Overkill box come with 12 normal guys, two grenade launchers, and two mining lasers.  The minimum you can take is two squads of ten.  Somehow I will need to get four more regular guys.  If I want special weapons, I will need to acquire them as well.

Genestealer Cult Neophyte

The last model I worked on is the primus model. I think this is the coolest looking model in the set.  I had a hard time figuring out what color to paint his cape.  After consulting with my wife and showing her the other part of the army, she suggested the dark brown. I like how it turned out.

Genestealer Cult Primus

His arms are modeled like genestealer arms, but I feel he would still be mostly human. My other choice would be to paint him up like the metamorphs and acolytes. After some debate, I went with the light skin on his face.
Genestealer Cult Primus

I painted up  his bone sword like the claws on his fingers. I can't believe that I don't have a completely painted model with bone swords yet,  I have the swarm lord but he is no where close to be finished and none of my shrikes, guards or warriors have  a sword painted.

Genestealer Cult Primus

I have two more neophytes, several metamorphs, and the magus that are still primed and waiting for some paint.  I also can build out some more terrain.  Maybe we will get a dry day with temps higher than 40° so I can get the rest of my cult primed.

Genestealer Cult Primus

I need to get my lightbox back up an running.  These images are just not as good as it should be. Sorry for that.

Have a great week!

The End is Near!

$

With the year winding down, it is about time to look at my resolution list for this year to see what I have done and what got skipped.  Overall I believe I had a good year with painting 99 infantry models, 7 vehicles, and 5 monsters. Not bad but how much of that was what was promised? Let's break it down.

The Mecanicus

I have added to my army a tech-priest dominus, 6 destroyers, 11 vanguard, 1 infiltrator princeps, a datasmith, a ranger, 2 ironstriders, a dunecrawler, and 2 robots.  My army has come a long way.  The next step will be getting some ruststalkers and expanding the cult side of the force.  This was a major focus this year.  It allowed me to quickly build up this force and I was able to take it to a tournament.  Resolution Completed!

The Tau

With the focus on the Skitarii I didn't leave myself much time on building out my Tau force.  I still plan on getting a ghostkeel but it is pretty low on my priority list. There was a point this year when I wanted to play one of my seldom used armies. I chose the Necrons so the maybe next year will be the Tau's year.  Resolution failed.

 The Tyranids

I completed building the tyrranocyte and some of the guants that I wanted to do this year but failed to complete all of the mucolids and shrikes that I wanted. Instead I added a mawloc and a tyrant so I feel that is a decent trade off.  There was no new big tyranid which made me sad but I did start a cult army. Resolution completed.

 The Orks

Once again the stompa got ignored.  I am going to be using him early next year so maybe it will motivate me to finish him off. I also wanted to finish the flash gitz but got distracted with the lootas.  Lastly I didn't get around to finishing the mek guns or bikes.  The flash gitz are waiting for me on my table but my cult and skitarii call my name louder. Resolution failed.

 The Second Game

So this year I wanted to start up a second game.  Something to distract me when I want a change of pace.  This didn't happen.  I did support a kickstarter for a boardgame but that is not due until sometime in February. What I did do was start The Great Terrain Project of 2016.  This project consists of 10 buildings and 9 addon on pieces.

While I will not have them all painted this year I will have them all assembled and I consider that an accomplishment.  I also built up 2 hills that I donated to our meetup group.  So while I didn't start up a new game I did find something to distract me for that change of pace.  I am counting that as a resolution completed.

 The Extras

Throughout the year I added several things to my completed list that were not accounted for on the resolution page.  Knowing how I am a hobby butterfly, I know how easily I can be distracted by something new and shiny. I painted up some guard heavy weapon teams and a manticore tank but the army that got the most unexpected love were my Necrons.

Taking them to the Nova Open gave me an itch to work on the neglected models.  In that time I completed 4 wraiths, 5 tomb blades, 10 deathmarks, and 8 lychguard.  Since then I completed 4 destroyers, 1 destroyer lord and 5 pretorians.  Eventually I will want to finish up the destroyers.  I also have a project for building 20 flayed ones.  These can go one next years list.

There you have it.  Overall I am about 50-50 on my resolutions.  I never consider these resolutions as things I must do but more as suggestions of things I would like to do.  I am amazed on how much I got done and I am already gearing up for a big year next year.  Looking ahead I see the genestealer cult, the sisters of battle, rail raiders and more all coming down the pipe.  It was a fun one and next year looks like a hoot as well.

New Changes to the Blog

I have made a few changes to my blog.  Some of the changes are for my benefit and some are just some updates.  One I am hoping is an improvement for my small community.

First up is I have added Disqus as my comment content.  I have noticed most other blogs I read use Disqus so this way people can use their accounts to comment. I am hoping people will be ok with this change.  It would be nice if it is a welcome change.

Next up, with the resolution post, I have cleared out my to do list and the completed list.  Look for their replacement next year after my resolution post.

Lastly,  I have added the Risen from the shadows section.  This section is for me to track my Genestealer Cult progress.  The completed throng will hold an account of models that are painted.  The grey horde are the models I own but are not completed.  The last one, future recruits, are the models I plan on getting to complete my army.  That is a ton of Acolytes!

Let me know what you guys think.  Can you think of a new name for the recruits?  Do you like or hate Disqus?  Is there something else you would like to see?

TGTP2016: Build is finished

With the wife out of town for a couple of days, I had a couple of evenings to myself to watch hockey and build up some terrain. I assembled all my kickstarter bundle from Death Ray Designs.
I found the pillboxes, barracks and Foundry really easy to assemble. The HQ was not too difficult but the bunkers had some complication.

I had to break out the hot glue to secure the bottoms of the walls together. once anchored the rest of the assembly went easily.

Peekaboo!
I was hoping these would be a little taller.  This will block tanks and infantry but as you can see most monster will be able to look over most of this terrain.

The one exception is the foundry. That is a massive breadbox.  It even hides the knight.

I have started to paint up some of the pieces.  I did a test earlier with grey and leadbelcher but I think I like the copper look better. Next nice day I will try to get the rest of the pieces base coated.  Things are coming along nicely.

I think this set will fill a board decently.  I will probably want to create some forests and some ruins to round out the table. Sometime I will pick up a game mat and my table will be complete.  With this I can have a friend over and not feel bad for not having some decent terrain.

The biggest complaint I have about these pieces is the detail cards.  I tried to use a variety of glues but I could not fine one that prevented them from curling away from the other pieces. I am not sure if there is a right way or wrong way to adding these but I obviously couldn't figure it out.  Maybe my technique of gluing it down then holding it for 4-5 min is the right one.

I am really happy with the over all effect.  I found these to be an affordable way to get a table's worth of terrain together. What do you think?

Over the weekend I had some time to set up my light box so I went back and took some better pictures of the aberrant and patriarch. I also finished two metamorphs and my first acolyte. lets take a look.

With the light box and my wife's phone I finally took a nice clear picture with less glare. Looking at the model I am wondering if I should paint the spine a different color.  I was thinking dark blue like the rest of the transforming parts, but usually these spines are green on my tyranids.  It is still up in the air.

I am still not sold on these guys in game.  They are slow and vulnerable.  They can pack a punch if they get into combat so I will keep them around for when I summon units. This will save more room in my list for more versatile options.

Next up in my patriarch.

Next up we have my first acolyte.  these guys have less mutations that the metamorphs so I decide to paint him similar to the primus.  I painted its legs and rending claws the darker blue while normal arms and face the lighter blue.  With this style, it will be easier to distinguish between the two types while playing making it easier for me and my opponent.

My first metamorph is the leader. He has four arms one of them being a lictor arm.  There was so much details on his head. I might go back and paint up the ridge green. I like the extra little detail of the guard head on the base.

My last one is the metamorph with the crushing claw.  I lost some of the images to the warp before posting.  I am happy with how he turned out.

What do you think?  Does my scheme make sense? Should I paint the spine of the aberrants? What color should it be?

Rumor: Gathering Storm: The Fall of Cadia

The boys over on the Warhammer twitch channel have brought us a sneak peak from the new book called Gathering Storm: The Fall of Cadia.  They have shown us three new models that will be featured in the book. Here are some screenshots of these models.

First up is Inquisitor Greyfax.   They said she was a witch hunter as well as a psyker.  The hinted that she will fit nicely into and imperium army.  This might be nice to fit into my IG army or possibly my ad mech.

Although, if I am going to add a model to my ad mech army, it will probably add Belisarius Cawl.

Belisarius Cawl is an arch magos.  They flashed his stat page but I couldn't get any info from it other than he is an HQ.  They did say he is toughness 6 and has 5 wounds.  I am eager to find out where he fits in.  Will he be for cult mechanicus alone or will he finally be the skitarii first hq.  I am eager to find out. The also said he was as big as a carnifex.

Last but not least is The Living Saint Celestine.

In the imperial agents book we saw a sisters army without the saint.  Now, we see she is back in this book. I am unsure if they mean for you to use the two new books instead of the old digital codex.  I am not familiar enough with their rules to see the difference.  I am told that the acts of faith are a bit different but mostly it is the same.  I would like someone take an in-depth look at the differences.

With the kickstarter of alternate models almost here, I had a feeling that it was time for GW to release a plastic sister models.  If you are to believe Raging heroes, I should be seeing them in January.  This probably means March knowing how slow they really are.  Here is their Celestine.

While I like the new GW one, I think the Raging Heroes one is cooler.  It also looks more stable and for that I am grateful. With my small force of 30 alternate girls I doubt I will buy any of the GW sisters.  I might buy some bits to fill out the weapons but they were too late for me to buy a whole force.
There you have it.  They talked a lot about how 2017 was going to be huge for 40k.  This book is the start of a huge chaos invasion so I have a feeling that there be a lot of non xenos army updates.  If this is true, I can focus on my cult army.  I just feel sorry for my poor orks and tyranids who seem to be falling further and further behind in power.  I guess I just have to find new and tricky ways to play them I guess.

Just a quick update.  Last time, I was talking about how I wanted to paint up the spine on the aberrant and the head crest on my metamorph. Today I bring you images of the completed model straight from my messy workstation.

I like this look better.  They now feel complete. This will probably be my last post of the year.  I hope you have a great holiday and I will catch you next year.

New Years Resolution 2017

Happy new year everybody and with a new year we get new year resolutions. It's that time again for me to lay down some goals for the next year to help me stay focused on my hobby.

First up we have painting the terrain set from last year.  While this might not be the first thing I do I know I want to get these painted up so they are ready for any pop up game.  Heck maybe I will get my wife to play a game using the set.

Along the same vein as the terrain, I have two kickstarters that should be arriving first quarter. The first one is Rail Raiders. There will be a handful of chibi playing pieces to paint up for this game.  I hope this will be a game that my wife and I and maybe other house guest will play in the future.

After that I have the Raging Heroes Toughest Girls of the Galaxy order coming in.  These will be the start of my Sisters army.  With all the new rules they are getting I am eager to see how they do.  I think they will be a huge challenge to paint.

Speaking of armies, I will have my cult to finish up.  By the end of the year I am hoping that I will have an army I am happy to field.  It will be nice to be able to field a leman russ tank because I want to not because I need to field it.

From the sneak peaks we know that Belisarius Cawl is coming out soon.  I know I will want him for my Ad Mech army.  He is cool looking. Hopefully he will be playable as well.

I have reservered a spot at Miniwargaming this April.  I am really excited about heading up there.  I have 3 days to play.  I am thinking about taking three of my armies.  I will bring my tyranids for sure but after that I am unsure which other two I will bring.

If I can finish up my orks I might bring them as well and maybe a necron army to at least have a chance of winning. I doubt my cult will be ready in time.  This leaves my necrons, ad mech, IG, and Tau.  My Tau is not much more painted than my cult army so they are probably not going.

Speaking of Tau, if I do get a month where I have some money not earmarked I plan on getting a ghostkeel. It is a really cool model and looks effective on the playing field.  We shall see.

Again I want to get George(my stompa) completed.  He is just a basing away from being finished.  I need to get off my butt and do it.   Along with George I want to paint up my flash gits, battle wagon and trukk so I stop putting unfinished armies on the board.

I think this is a good amount of work for me to do this year.  Of course, I can and will divert from this plan if something new come out.  If the tyranids get a new monster there is a good chance of me getting it. (unless it is like the malceptor or toxicrene) How about you guys? Any new year resolutions you want to declare?
